Steady referrals are key to successful evidence-based treatments
Even the best social program is nothing if it doesn’t have clients. Creating a steady stream of referrals can be a major challenge for an evidence-based program, but it is possible with thoughtful planning. The best strategy for overcoming a lack of referrals is developing strong, personal relationships with referral sources.
Also, key to maintaining good relationships are the staff that you hire. Hiring the right professionals who are both solid clinically and inspire confidence through their presentation are an absolute must. An ongoing dialogue with referral sources is also important to assess satisfaction and to develop alliances and champions inside agencies. This includes supervisors who should regularly check in with their counterparts at referral agencies to evaluate general impressions and address problems that may arise from differences in opinion and misunderstandings.
