This Mother's Day, we are releasing an e-book to celebrate all the moms out there doing their best

Oprah Winfrey once said, “Moms have the toughest job in the world, if they are doing it right.” What exactly is right?

I remember sitting in the wheelchair leaving the hospital with a twin in each arm, tears running down my eyes, feeling so overwhelmed. I was now responsible for these two lives, and I thought I had only one chance to “get this right.” My own mom asked why I was crying. When I told her, she laughed and said, “There is no right.”  She said each child is a gift and that my husband and I would figure it out. She let me know I had a village to help me along the way. And boy, have I used that village. I have relied on family, friends and the community to help reinforce and supervise my children.

Now a mom of three teenagers, the commitment and patience it takes to raise a child can be overwhelming and frustrating. There were days that I questioned every decision we make as parents.

There are many stories about the strength and endurance moms and families used to overcome adversity and fight for their child. I admire their courage and commitment to “get it right,”—whatever right means.

Oprah Winfrey was correct. It is absolutely the toughest job in the world, but it also the best job.
